Dokra, the famous metal art form of India is an ancient art form. It is non-ferrous meta casting using the lest-wax casting system which dates back to 4000 years. ‘The Dancing Girl’ found during the excavation of Mohenjo-Daro is one of the earliest known lost-wax artefact. The art has a primitive simplicity, enchanting folk motifs and forceful forms. Different states of Indian have their own original styles. The name ‘Dokra’ has come from Dhokra Damar tribes who are the main traditional metal smiths of West Bengal and Odisha. As mythology says Kali a manifestation of Goddess Durga was born to destroy demon Raktabija who was capable of cloning himself out of dripped blood on the ground and therefore was invincible. But Mother Kali swallowed his blood before it touched the ground and that is how it was possible to slay him. Mother Kali appears as standing in the battle ground with one of her feet resting on the chest of Lord Shiva who is in a supine position. She has four hands and her complexion is dark. Her tongue hangs out of her mouth and in her four hands she holds the served head of the demon, bloody Kripana, a bowl to collect the dripping blood of the demon and the other hand is shown in Varada Mudra. She is worshipped to conquer over enemies and to make enemies powerless. She is also worshipped to destroy disease, evil spirits, harmful effects of planets, fear of death. She is also known as Shyama because of her dark complexion. This unique piece of Goddess Dokra Kali is a collectors item.

About Dolni Studio

Years ago, ‘The Venus Of Dolni Vestonice’, a figurine of Mother Earth: the oldest piece of ceramic found on our planet, inspired us to create a confluence of ancient themes and modern day requirements and Dolni Studio was founded. We realized that this classic form of art will never lose its relevance, as it combines art with necessity.

Keeping that in mind, we started creating our own unique designs, which are an ode to the songs of clay that cradled the ancient civilization but kept its feet anchored in the modern times.

Our products are a delicate fusion of rich aesthetics and a soulful personal vibe. Since inception, we have been driven by a single purposeful goal of creating ceramic-wares that are time-tested and timeless to bring you the best for all your needs. Every piece of soil and toil that is shaped in Dolni Studio is a product of utmost love and passion that whispers the story of earth and heart.
